Safe temp for x1900xt

The max I've seen mine reach was 90C (during one of the hottest days last summer). I guess this temp is fine since the fan will increase in speed to prevent the temperature from rising any higher. The fan barely reaches its maximum throughput even at 90C so I doubt it is dangerous, I mean the ATI engineers must have tested this extensively to find the optimum thermostat settings.

Of course, if you are constantly hitting 90C or go higher than that then you may actually have a problem (e.g. dust, faulty fan, etc).

not sure how hot mine got but it did get to 80c with the zalman vf900cu on it, with the hr-03 with a 12cm noiseblocker sx2pro fan i get up to around 63c max load temps which is very good considering its overclocked.

i just got the better cooling cuz i know running it at 90c all the time will probably nacker it sooner. and with vista on the rise the 3d interface is always running so thats gonna heat the card up all the time. so the better cooler was a good idea.

if your do want aftermarket cooling, thermaltake have pulled out a cheapo range of coolers the TMG range i believe http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Cooler/TMG/vgacooler.asp price under 20 quid they are not too bad at all but iv not found any uk retailer for these at all, next best solution and cheapest one would be to get a arctic cooling accelero cooler which will give you load temps at around 75c which is more than acceptable for its price and easy fitting.

I've had both of my cards up to 80ish but any prolonged use at this or higher temps caused freezes, I try and keep my cards under 60C for the IceQ and 70C for the normal cooler.
