Safe to give out Macbook Serial Number to eBay potential buyer?

Hi, I'm selling a broken Macbook Pro on eBay and the person is asking for the serial number. Is this safe?

They’ll be using it to check the AppleCare status. I don’t think there’s anything else they can do with it.

It can be used to spoof a real mac when building a Hackintosh, so certain features/services work, but TBF you can just randomly generate a serial with the app in the final stages of building an EFI etc, so I'd doubt anyone would bother stealing a real one.
