I have a pukka Vista licence - and I'm finding Windows 7 RC superb (dual boot) - but getting a bit fed up with booting into W7 to play games (better performance- especially in Arma 2)

any security issues with running the RC as a day to day OS ?

I don't run any criticial data or work data on my home PC its used mainly for family web browsing and gaming - but was concerned that Windows 7 may be - as its in RC status at the moment less secure from hacking etc

just wondering if anyone else had jumped ship from Vista and now using the RC as their main OS

cheers, Mark.

For all intensive purposes, it is more than adequate. You'll find a lot of people running RC variants, ranging from 7100 RC1 to the newer builds with very minor fixes and adjustments.

People are excited about W7 because they already think of it as a great OS, even at the beta/RC stages.

I am. Though I haven't installed some stuff so keep needing to switch back to vista (because I can't be bothered with the retail so close to release).

yep, got all 3 of my pc's running it and i'm more than happy with it i just hope when it come's out it all still works :D

and you can install it from a usb pen drive as well clicky :D

I've been using Windows 7 exclusively since the public RC came out - really is a well made OS. Heck, when it runs just as well as XP on netbooks, you know Microsoft really got their act together for it.

i just use xp for surfing these days win 7 is my gaming os and more than happy with it, i can't believe how fast it is compared to vista, it's like xp only much prettier :D and not one crash or blue screen :touch wood:

Been using Win 7 version 7100 as my main OS since it was released and it's been rock solid and much nicer to use than my crappy Vista home premium ;)

I've gotta say I really don't see how any of you can say its a great OS, I've now "tried" field testing it on my new build and had the same issues as most other users slow install (2hrs to get 5%). After doing a little digging I've found that if you try going back onto another OS its disruptive, god knows how its done it but its convinced my bios that the hard drive isn't there and now cannot install xp. I for one will not be field testing any more of microsofts white elephants.

I'll be posting up my hard drive issue in the hardware section if anyone has any ideas on how to get my hard drive back.

I know some of you have had good experiences with Windows 7 but it seems to be far and few between.

+1

I was running FSX last night got called away came back to find Win 7 in sleep mode.

Took less that 20 secs to come out of sleep and get back to playing FSX. What an OS.

Using 7100.

I've heard people having problems with sleep mode on win 7 but for me it's works a treat

thanks to all for your positive comments re W7 - think I will sawp it to my main OS - just seems a waste of a pukka Vista licence lol

re S3 sleep etc - DON'T do what I did and take PC apart whillst in S3 sleep (I think it was that mode) - and then accidently move 2 HDDs to different SATA ports !

trashed one drive (recoverable to some extent)

Mark.
