'Safely remove hardware' icon, how to remove?

How do I remove the 'Safely remove hardware' icon from the taskbar?

It is there ever since I upgraded my harddisks to two ATA ones and I don't want to accidentally stop them.

you cant accidently stop them, and I dont think you can remove the icons.

If they are in use windows won't let yuo stop them anyway, so I don't see a real problem.

Having said that, its not exactly easy to accidentally open the 'safely remove hardware' window and accidentally stop something that you don't want to stop.

you can do this, ask on msfn i've seen someone talk about it there..

Goto "Task Bar" / Customize

Both harddisks are there when I click the icon.

I just thought about it and it is the same icon as *** USB stick uses so I guess I can leave it if it isn't possible to stop the hardrives when Windows is in use.

Q - Are they ATA drives in a USB connected box or internal ATA drives?

I only got this icon on the taskbar because of my sata drives.

I haven't been able to find a way of removing the icon entirely from the taskbar, but the solution posted by Mel_P hides the icon from view.

They are internal SATA Hitachi drives.

I know how to hide the icon but I'd rather not use that function as I'd like to see what is running in the background.

If it isn't possible it's not a big problem, just one more icon that is on the screen.
