Agreed, difference between freshly roasted and the stuff that's been sat in a bag for months is night and day. You notice this straight away.
OP - If you're going down the route of paying £££ for a grinder/espresso machine then definitely give some fresh beans a go. I use Coffee Compass fwiw, and I have a Sage grinder. If it's the same parts in the B2C machine then you should get great results.
there is a cross-over point looking at the aforementioned Extract coffee https://extractcoffee.co.uk/shop/rocket/ £10/bag , so that 4x supermarket itself roasted a month ago,
plus you have to wait 10days before fresh stuff you pick up at shop is ready to roll. .. I'm nearer a £5/bag person.
just realised I have never walked into a nero/starbucks (not even for a coffee in the uk) .. to see if you can get any beans in that middle price range, but explicit roast date.
