Travelling westbound on Betsham road earlier today. Went to turn right onto the B255 at this intersection.

Guy in a Range Rover Sport waiting to turn right into the road I was leaving. As I turned in front of him, he pulled out too early and thumped straight into my rear quarter.

Damage isn't huge, but I'm still livid. Damage to his car is minimal - scuffs on the bumper and not much else. Swapped details, etc. Other party didn't admit fault, although I would say it's down to him. When I asked he said he "didn't see my indicator" although he acknowledged it was on (was still flashing when I pulled over). Even so, shouldn't be pulling out until he was sure it was clear to do so.

Lots of other drivers passing by, although no-one stopped. I've contacted my insurer and am leaving them to pursue it - already had a call from the hire company and waiting on a call from the repairer to get that all sorted, so hopefully it should be sorted with the minimum of fuss. Although with no witnesses, I am immediately on edge.

Anyway, could have been worse, it's only metal, etc. Still doesn't mean I'm not angry :(

Don't do it through your own insurer if its a clear non fault!

I wanted to inform my own insurer as to be honest, this is a new experience for me so I figured they would at least need to know. They've got a Toyota approved body-shop to contact me already and said that given the circumstances, they should be able to reclaim the costs on my behalf. Excuse my naiveté, but I thought that's how all accidents should be handled in the first instance.

You absolutely should notify them, you are legally obliged - but IMHO that's it. What most insurers do is sort everything out and THEN reclaim the costs from the third party. This means initially, its a 'fault' claim - so generally a crap hire car, no NCB until it's settled, etc etc.

That's not good :( Sounds stupid, but when you get it back make sure you check the quality of the repair really carefully. Ever "approved" bodyshops often aren't up to much, and the ones in our area particularly do not seem very good at all.

Bah...oh well. On a plus, the car is already booked in and the hire car sorted, so I'll just have to brace for the inevitable hassle.

Thanks Fox...lesson learn't for when this hopefully never happens again :(

Are we really abusing someone making a mistake

I could have murdered the guy as soon as it happened. But yes, just a simple lapse of judgement. Unfortunately one that happened while I was driving in front of him :(

Damn :(

Hope all goes well with the claim and repair. Is that the pearl white or standard?

Pearl, which I think is the only white available on this car.

Hope you enjoy having filler on your car. Its this exact reason i ended up parting ways with my new Clio 200 Cup prematurely, its just never the same again :(

If you were turning right at a T, and he was turning right out the T, and the impact is on the back side of your car, I don't see what indicators have to do with anything, surely your well past the indication stage in to completing the manoeuvre. Did you cut the T at all?

I am pretty sure my admiral insurance says you must not admit fault anyways. :/

It'll be declared a 50/50, by the time he got home he'll have convinced himself/ lied to the insurers that he was on the line waiting to turn right & you misjudged it and hit him !
