My old mum god bless her, can't tell the difference between salad cream and mayonnaise. When I'm out helping her with her shopping and she says she wants salad cream, she goes and picks up a jar of hellmans mayo. I'll say "err, mum, that's not salad cream" and she'll say "it's all the same". :p

How is this possible? They're so very different.

Totally different flavours.
Like Mayonnaise but hate Salad cream

but they do look similar, so to some people, i can see why they would get them confused

As one person said me to here once it's like comparing apples with oranges! I love both of them but I really love salad cream *nom nom nom nom* it's the tangyness of it :D (is that even a word?).

Wasnt that keen on mayo till i tried it with a blt sarnie, not bad. But salad cream is still a no no.

Funny thing is, if I buy a prepacked sandwich say chicken and stuffing and there is some mayo in it then I can eat it, and find it ok. Make a sandwich at home and under no circumstances will I have mayo in it.

How can you not tell the difference? :D One is kind of yellow and the other one is white.

Can't stand mayonnaise - Seeing that big dollop on the side of the plate makes me gag. Salad cream on actual salad isn't bad, though.

Mayo has no flavour, and tastes different int he UK to the stuff I grew up with in South Africa.

However, a 50:50 mix of Mayo and Salad Cream is pretty close to the Mayo I grew up with, so happy days!

Salad cream all the way, can't stand mayonnaise unless its desperate times and theres nothing else to mix in my tuna!!
