Salary expectations

If your the right person - they will pay you accordingly.

NEVER undersell yourself, I agree with above - if looking to move I would say your looking for at least 30-50% on top of your existing salary.

yeah, just wondered how it works with an internal recruiter - seems a bit harsh to have this approach with existing employees

an internal recruiter is someone directly employed by the firm doing the hiring - it doesn't mean the people they recruit are existing employees.

It's all over the place in terms of accuracy, because job titles in IT are all over the place.

If your job title is worth a lot less on that site then you probably aren't being overpaid, you just have a title that doesn't reflect what you actually do - something that you could do with getting sorted if you're planning on switching jobs.

I would say it does not always matter. I have had 2 jobs in my professional career of about 8 years, and both times, I have asked for less than I have ended up with (£4K the first time, and £10K the second time). However, neither of these were internal hires. FYI: both jobs in IT/ sales- related roles.

How did you manage to lowball it by 10 grand? Were they paying above the market rate or did you go in not really knowing what that was?
