What I couldn't do with that kind of money... I'm on about 18K at the mo, after enhancements for night/weekend work. Then again, I dropped out. The NHS is now gonna pay for a biochem degree, after that I'll be on about 21K start - well, I would if I'd just started. Because I would have been working for the NHS for a while by then it'll be more like 26K, plus enhancements.

my real questions was supposed to be. at what salary does one become satisfied and sustainable.

considering the cost of living in the uk. again dependent on where you live.

completely dependent, in my town anyone on more than say 18-20k tends to be comfortable. the average is probably a bit lower i'd say.

yes but with tax 20% it comes down considerably, when they take NI and loans etc

probably 18k.

if your income is over 34800 is when you get taxed 40%, first 34800@20% and remainder at 40%

a sacrifice for ones success

i studied accounting and finance, i didnt bother with top big 4.

now im looking at the cfa and cpa qualifications and prospects and ask my self if its really worth the hassle, apposed to acca or aca

cfa only 35% pass rate, but the pay is bonkers

I'm 21.. at at Spinal point 16 (NHS Band 5) so 20k.. but more like 26-27k with overtime and acting up (I'm trained to do a band 6 position)

Of course it varies wildly from job to job. Also any average you will see will be skewed by those few jobs that pay ludicrous amounts of cash. For example not many solicitors get the 'average' salary because inner-London salaries skew the averages. Or so I understand!

Most major grad schemes offer £30K+ as a starting salary.

That really depends on the industry, to say 'most' I would say is incorrect.

I very much doubt that.

I know lots of people that started at a Big 4 accountancy firm after uni (probably the largest collection of "major" graduate recruiters) and none of them were on £30k+ and the ones outside London were on £22k.

BT's grad scheme even in London was a lot less too.

To get those kind of figures you're looking at law, finance, some management positions, engineering etc. - specialist and highly skilled/demanding professions.
