currently running 2 x 8gb crucial ballistix 3200 rgb ram. would like to add another 2x8gb.

1: Is buying exactly the same item but nearly 2 years later going to make any difference? (but its a bit pricey at the minute for rgb version)

2: buying the exact same brand, exact same speed but just the non rgb version. what potential problems would that throw up? this is the option that appeals at the minute cost wise.

3: buying same brand but different speed, i.e. 2x8gb 3600 crucial ballistix.

asus rog strix b550f gaming motherboard (if that makes any difference).

thank you for any advice.

Buying the same speed ballistics shouldn't cause any problems , rgb has no bearing on performance.

You can mix ram brands and timmings, etc but all tge memory will default to the higher timmings and lower frequency of the 2 sets.

Just get the non rgb version.

I recently upgraded from 16 to 32Gb of Corsair RGB so i added another pack of RGB Pro memory. Corsair can be a bit of a nightmare and they even say on their website they do not guarantee that the same part number with a different version number will be compatible. Luckily they do seem to work together with no issues currently. I will be upgrading the board from the Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming Ultra to a Asus ROG Strix X570-F and swapping from a Ryzen 7 2700 to a 3700X soon so i am praying that they will all play nice together.
