I just got this monitor but when i set it up i only get an image of the desktop for a second and then the screen goes blank.
I'm using supplied DVI cable and a EVGA 8800 GTX ko ACS3 edition

I think the monitor is in Analogue mode

I just recieved the Samsung Syncmaster 245B on friday the 31st and am sad to report that It does not work out of the box. I tried calling the OCUK international support phone number but it appears to be "not in use".

I then called Samsung reported the problem and was advised that the backlight Had likely failed and that I should OCUK.

The problem is a simple one the monitor will only display an image once turned on for a split second and then the screen goes solid black. this happens with both DVI and VGA connections. The blue power button remains a solid Blue. if I change screen resolution with the monitor set as a second screen i get an image again for a split second. also weather in single or duel monitor setup if i turn off then turn on the screen i will get an image of the desktop for a split second and then its gone.

If i disconnect the video cable from the system the blue power button will begin to flash but the screen will remain blank no error message appears advising that there is no video feed.

If you look realy really closely and move things around on the screen, can you *just* see a picture. If so, sounds like the backlight has gone.

I had an old 17" where this happened, after turning it on and off a few times it would hold, but it got worse and worse, eventually to the point where it would need 20-30 on/off cycles to hold. I got it RMA'd no questions asked...

I've got the same monitor.

It will detect the input source ( analogue or digital ) automatically.

You have a faulty monitor , i'm afraid :(

Turned out it was the starter motor (atleast thats what i think the engineer dude said) which was faulty.

LOL, I think you or he meant the inverter. Sounds to me as though the inverter has failed. I work for a company who supply open frame monitors, and we just had a load of monitors, that had the exact same issue. Turned out the manufacturer had changed supplier of one of the transformers, and there was a bad batch. It will need to be replaced.
If it was the backlight that failed, you wouldn't get any display at all (unless you look really closely, with the room lights off).
RMA it.

This same problem has occured with my 19" Viewsonic VX912............it displays the image for a split second then goes to a blank screen. Its now about 3 or 4 years old so i cannot return it.

Whats the cost to get the inverter replaced? or would i be better off replacing the monitor?
