Samsung 226BW. All these panel types. I've lost the plot.....

There's s, c and all these different panel types. Some are slagging this monitor off to high heaven, some can't get enough of it.

Now, I just want a nice 22 inch monitor which does not cost the earth. I am not bothered if the red in my garden roses is not perfectly reproduced on my monitor. As long as it's reasonable then it'll do me. If I were about to spend £450 or so then maybe I might be a bit more exacting but my photos are not going to be on a bill board. Viewing angles do not matter to me. If I want to watch a DVD I'll do so on the telly

I want the monitor for some games, organising my digital pictures (for my families entertainment not for commercial) and some games and windows stuff.

Does it matter for me what panel comes with the monitor?

I would like to buy the Sammy and want to determine whether it matters or not. I am 99% convinced that it does not matter for the purposes that I want the monitor for but a quick seek of opinions before ordering doesn't do any harm.

Many thanks,
Steve

For this very reason i am going to get the lg 22" it's £40 cheaper and no lottery.
Etailers should provide the info as to exactly which monitor you are
buying in situations like this but then naturally they won't if they have the
slovakian panels. The 226bw is apparently cheaper in a high street shop than it is on the net
which i find crazy as online retailers don't have these shop overheads.

kirkster, have a read of the pages on the 226bw in this article. Conclusion: all the possible panels will make for an equally good purchase. EDIT - a direct quote just to emphasize that point:

"So I think that differences between the versions of the 226BW model with different matrixes are greatly exaggerated in forum discussions."

Then read the section on the l226wtq in that very same article. You now know why the LG is so much cheaper than the Samsung (it has appallingly bad response time compensation).

C64 - Have you actually seen one of the Slovakian panels which you seem to think are so awful?

I've just got a Sammy 245B.

Spot on colours - Straight from the box

No Dead pixels

A Stunning monitor.

Oh wait , it was made in Slovakia.

I'd better put my " i believe the hype " glasses on , and check again ;)

That's strange, I've got the LG and have not noticed any artifacting and consider the image quality and response time second to none.

Then again, the LG226WTQ picture in that article looks nothing like the one for sale IN THE UK from Overclockers...

Wow, because it is the black bezel and white stand version of THE VERY SAME MONITOR it can't possibly be at all relevant...

No but there's posts about the slovakian 226bw being horrid on here
the guy who got one sent it back.
I think with the 226bw the hype about different quality screens is justified though.Who wants to pay £230 ish for a screen not much better than a budget 22" that can be had for £140 certainly not me.

It is a growing a problem... the screen may look stunning however you need to see it side by side to a different panel.

I was of the thought that if it looked good then thats all that matters, and some people will be of the same opinion. Others will like to know that when buying an expensive monitor they want the best available for he price.

I had a HP laptop replaced, on its own the screens were excellent, however side by side the difference is night and day. The problem was documented here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=73832

Although good in their own right, there can be a massive difference in screen quality that is not apparent without seeing it side by side, this can be masked somewhat as people are usually upgrading from poorer monitors anyway.

My point is simply i want what i will pay for it's like
paying for say a bmw m5 then finding out it's a different engine
and is 100 hp less than everyone else's.
It is a serious issue last thing you want to do is splash out £230
and end up with a monitor that ghosts and has far worse bleed
than other 226bw panels.

But doesn't matter as it looks the same on the outside.
All i will say is do not listen to people who own the 226bw
and no other monitors as their opinion will be tainted.
I respect the opinion of someone who has say a dell 2007 wfp and samsung 226bw worst panel and can compare without biased critique.

C64 speaks the truth. but be warned mate , the LG which sits here with me is kinda blueish too , and i try to calibrate its colors all day and still no success. in fact i think this LG tft is going back to shop, the sammy i believe has better colors...

It's very random as other people seem happy with the lg with no talk
of blue tint.Think i'll leave this to you guys as i myself am very confused.
All i know is do not pay £230 for a screen no better than a no brander
22".Personally i have always leant toward the dell 2007 wfp from the countless
info i have read up on about monitors but it's very hard to get at a decent price
ocuk price is sweet but they sold out.

I bought this monitor (226BW) last week from a shop where I could order online and pick it up. I was worried about the issues regarding the panels and could not demo before I bought it.

But WOW this really is a fantastic monitor. Now mine has no identifiable code on the back or in the service menu to tell what panel I have. But I have no back light bleed, no blurring in text or ghosting at all in games. Just vibrant colours and a crystal clear picture.

This is a superb purchase IMO :)

Enjoy the panel glad you got a goodun
lottery remains though just because you got a good panel
doesn't mean everyone should go and buy one.
I'd love to but won't until they sort out the issue with a new revision.
The point is you could have a screen no better than or maybe even the exact same panel as the cibox 22" which is £140.
And payed £90 extra just for the shiny samsung logo.

I spent the day reading the "official 226bw" thread as well as other posts....

After all that reading I went a bought one the other day £224 delivered although I wont get it till tuesday, Im betting im going to love it!!! and if I dont I will just send it back for free.

Im upgrading from a Hyundai N91W 19"....anyone have comparison pics (size wise)

neil

I got the sammy 226bw from a well known high street store, i was worried about buying it so i knew by buying from there i could take it back for a refund easy;)

To be honest though, i dont really see what the grief is all about the screen is stunning, was spot on straight out the box!

Ignore all the crap thats been said in the past, get the screen and make the decision for yourself.

Edit--
The panels are no longer marked.

got it yesterday

have been quite pleased with it so far, only problem ive noticed is a white patch over the left hand side of the screen, if i am to that side of the monitor slightly it sticks out when the screen has a lot of black on it. I dont see it on the right side though.

i take it thats not normal? only really see it when playing CSS

does anyone else have the problem?
sorry but that's a huge problem if your a gamer
