Hey all,

I recently took the plunge and got an SSD drive to breath some life into my aging powerhouse (Samsung 256GB 840 Pro). After getting everything set up with a new install of Windows 8, I ran some benchmarks and I do not seem to be getting the speeds I'd expect.

From what I read, I thought I'd expect at least 300 sequential speeds? I'm all AHCI enabled too:

I am however in a SATA 2 port, not a 3, but I've also read I should still be well above the speeds shown. I tired moving to a SATA 3 port and the PC would get as far as displaying the Windows 8 boot logo and promptly shut down.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I think you need the Marvell SATA drivers for those ports, and set the ports to ahci as they are seperate from the Intel sata2 ports

Speeds look right for Intel sata2,you can also test with atto benchmark

I'm pretty sure I'm in the Marvell SATA 2 ports, just not the 3. Maybe I need to update the drivers, not sure why I can't change the 3, I've read I should be able to, unless I need to re install the OS whilst being in the 3 port..

All my ports are AHCI right now, but I'll double check.

The Marvell ports are the white ones, the blue are Intel, and you can just switch without reinstalling, there is IDE and ahci mode for the Marvell aswell as the Intel

Thanks,

Yeah I'm in the white ones, the SATA 2, so something up here. Sadly it seems I can't switch to the SATA 3 or the pc will not boot (shows the blue Windows 8 logo and promptly powers off the PC).

Thanks of the attention on my issue. Right now the speed is not vastly better than my gaming laptop when it comes to launching programs so I hope I can work this out.

Hi, using same mobo but Rev2, use sata ports 0/1 for SSD > 5/4 for DVD-Rom etc. Them use Samsung Magician Magic to set up your SSD.

Okay, so turns out all the Marvall ports are junk, be it SATA 2 or 3. I actually got the best results from the Intel ports.

Not to the drives potential, but I'll accept that for now.

Seq Read-278/Seq Write-264
Ran Read-47592/Ran Write-35279
