I’m probably being stupid here but can someone explain the difference between these and why one costs £700 more than the other.

Looks like they have the same resolution, refresh rate, freesync/gsync compatibility etc




And then why does this one which has a much lower refresh rate cost more or less the same as the one with 240hz refresh rate ?



Feels like the second one posted is the logical one to go for right ?

I don't have answer for your second question about the 120Hz model... but to answer your first question, the two 240Hz monitors use different backlighting technologies:
  • The cheaper one uses QLED, HDR1000
  • The more expensive one uses the more advanced Quantum Mini-LED, HDR2000
From my understanding, the main difference is that the higher priced on uses a higher quantity of smaller LEDs to achieve a crisper image with more accurate backlighting. It's meant to be like a middle ground between QLED and OLED.
