Hi,

Currently stuck with a choice between the ks7000 and ks8000 Samsung TVs...
Given the choice with the which would you go for?

Cost wise for the 7000, John Lewis would price match at 840 but I'd need a new tv stand (under 35cm high) which im looking around 100-120 ish. Therefore cost would be in the region of £950.

Cost for 8000 would be £1195 (prc direct deal including the 8500 uhd player).

So price difference between the two would be £250... given this would include the player and the higher model tv what would you go for?

Thanks

If the UHD player comes with some free UHDs then I would go for the 8000 as costs are pretty much going to end up the same once you factor in a stand and UHD player for the 7000.

Definitely worth looking up any differences in the screen specs. between the two as well.

Good deal. You will hopefully love the upscaling on the ks8000 and 8500 player for non-uhd content as well - my blu-rays look phenomenal.
But there not 4k?. I really feel like taking the plunge on the KS7000 but cannot see what benefit it will give me with all my content been HD. Has anybody gone from the Sammy H6400 to the KS7000 other then gaming i can't see much of an upgrade but that is just my opion

I can't really explain to you how it looks - it is something you need to see. But, upscaled HD content to 4K looks very, very good - in fact better than HD looked on my Panasonic Plasma (GT50). The upscaling is so good, that I've been hard pressed to see a huge difference between HD upscaled to 4K vs 4K UHD, except for HDR of course. Some films in 4K UHD add nothing more over the blu-ray anyway, so you are benefiting more from upscaling the blu-ray than buying the 4K UHD blu-ray - but that isn't to say 4K UHD blu-ray discs are not worth buying - decent ones really do offer a step-up in definition, colour, and dynamic range.

I have had a Samsung K7000 price matched for a week or so but still can't pull the trigger over the Panasonic GT50 50" Plasma we have. The Plasma is still a cracking picture and when playing a 1080p film the colours and blacks look amazing. What I am aware of is when we visited our Son's house last night and watched a little TV on his 55" LCD is that it is overwhelmingly retina burning and whilst I could have changed the settings more to my liking I didn't seem to be that impressed to pay for that difference.

When you mention that HD looks better than on your Plasma 50" how much "better" would you suggest....? Is it an incremental difference, and is that due to the colours etc being boosted to the point of needing sunglasses, or is it more than that....?

I understand that you went for the K8000.

Again, hard to explain, but I would say the extra clarity from the extra definition (not brightness or colour) is what makes a big difference, also the blacks look just as impressive.

Does your son have a 55" ks7000 or is it just a 55" lcd TV, because there would be a difference between those, and a standard lcd would not necessarily be representative of a ks7000.

If possible I would ask a store to demo one for you with a uhd blu ray player, and bring your own discs and have them tested out. See if they will let you try some of the picture settings as well.

Edit: the reason I upgraded to a ks8000 was because my plasma had a fault and was out of warranty. I then bought a Panasonic led 1080p TV to replace it but was never happy with picture, so eventually got the ks8000 which has been really impressive and worthy upgrade and replacement.

I had avoided to go into the specifics of the model that my Son had, his is a Hisense.

When I saw the K7000 at Currys it looked ok considering that it was probably set to an oversaturated eye popping mode.

I was interested at your thoughts as you initially stated that it looked better when running HD content on the K8000 than the GT50 Plasma, when upscaled to 4k. I can understand what you mean by it being hard to explain. If you take away the colour or brightness etc then you describe the clarity of the picture. I can sort of understand that. Perhaps as you had a LED TV in between the Plasma and the K8000 the difference noticed by you had a greater impact...?

Tough choice for us to make, having noted in another thread that we still watch a lot of SD and HD channels and we are not too bothered as yet about 4k content.

I suppose it was initial curiosity that compelled me to take a peek at what was on the market and then noticing the K7000 price being rather good. I am getting the impression that for our needs our venerable 2012 dated Plasma is still pretty damn impressive.

I had read that Sony Panasonic, LG and Phillips had announced support for the HLG broadcasting stds for their 2016 and 2017 range of TV's. I do not know if that would cover all compatible TV's or when that would happen, considering that there aren't any broadcasts as yet being made AFAIK there would be no rush. I hadn't read anything official from Samsung as yet.

Regardless of when we change our working Plasma (apart from the EPG and now Youtube app which doesn't work) we could be paying a four figure sum for the difference and I am not convinced that is enough. If it failed out of warranty that is another thing.

Just purchased the Sammy 7000.. 859.00 squids..

Seeing as I have sky Q, Netflix, amazon and a Nvidia shield that can al do 4k it seemed mad not to.. my old 47 LG has developed a few dead pixels that were bugging me badly

I just moved from a 60" LG plasma to a 65" KS8000 and I have to say I'm blown away.. so much better (IMO of course!)

Isn't the GT50 supposed to be a great TV, I went from a Sony w905 to a KS700 and the picture was better, HD material was slightly improved and blacks seemed a lot better.

I tried some HDR on Netflix and personally it wasn't much different than standard HD though?? maybe my settings were wrong. It was better but not by much.

I returned mine due to some issues.

Not trying to put you off but I will give you some of my personal negatives as everyone has talked about the positives.

The build quality is not that good, the back panel is a shiny plastic and dust sticks to it like glue.

Looking closely at the TV bezel in areas you can see crappy finishing to the product in general.

Gamemode (HDR) still not fixed.

The remotes are rubbish. Could not get on with either for some reason.

Thanks for that.

Yes the GT50 50" was, and could still be considered, a great TV. Both in picture and build quality. It is built like a tank and the picture has been excellent, with only a small annoyance of typical Plasma banding in some scenes, some call it false contouring. As it was launched as a mid range TV in 2012 I had hoped that by now I could be expecting a real and noticeable difference when looking at a suitable replacement. But I must remember that the GT50 had a price of close to £1200 when it was first released, although we paid almost half that, and so it might not be fair comparing it to this K7000 model, certainly not in build quality.

As noted in my previous post we both do not consider this K7000 worth buying over our GT50 Plasma. The difference is all we will be paying for and that seems to be a very mixed bag.

Might not be similar comparison but I just bought a Epson XP760 printer (with a £30 cash back) and that cost me a total of £70. Whilst it is an ok printer, and good when using Epson photo paper, its build quality is so flimsy and it seems to be almost half the weight of my Canon MG6250 printer. It has so many niggly things that are not good about it though and if it hadn't have been for the £30 cash back it would have been returned.

Picked mine up st the weekend from John Lewis. It seems it has the fault like others with the back panel slightly loose on the left side. It isn't sitting flush. as much as it isn't too much a problem now I'm guessing it could get worse / cause problems down the line? Can I get John Lewis to pick it up and drop a new one off st the same time?

So took delivery of my TV yesterday (KS7000)

Wow the difference is amazing.. everything looks so much better up scaled to 4k.. used the settings from the AVS forums.

Treated myself to a copy of Suicide Squad on 4k HDR disc and did a comparison of the 1080p backup I have and the difference was night and day... colors pop, was a joy to watch..
