If I was to buy the 64gb Samsung drive and install Win 7, Office 2007, Eve Online and Battlefield 3 with my documents, music folders etc on a separate mechanical drive would it operate at optimal speed?

That's badly worded but what I mean is if I fill it up too much will it slow down and if so how much empty space should I leave on a 64gb drive?

The reason I ask is that I can't really afford to stretch to the 240gb version but the 128gb M4 does look tempting.

yes you'd still get the full benefit, just be selective as to what you install on the windows partition, Office wouldn't be one of them.

I have some games on SSD and less demanding games on the HDD.

BF3 install is currently 15GB+ in size and is set to grow as each DLC is released (even if u don't buy them) so with that, the OS and a few programs u'll very quickly reach the limit of a 64GB drive (space-wise). I'd suggest minimum 80GB but preferably bigger. Remember the advertised space isnt all useable, buy this I mean a 64GB drive is more like 56GB of useable space.

Think I'll just leave it until I can afford a bigger drive then.

I considered the OCZ 3 120gb at £82 but I'd need to get an adaptor plate as well so that's nearly double what I have to spend now cause I'm off to Spain at the weekend.
