SAMSUNG 80GB DRIVE FAIL

i think my Hd has failed, was copying lots of data onto it lastnight, and rebooted my pc, and found that its no longer detected in windows vista

its detected fine in the bios though

it has started to make a clicking sound ? whats this mean ?

i have tried uninstalling/reinstalling in device manager and downloading lates update for it

I have tried different Sata socket on my Mb, and also unplugged the power cable to it to check thats ok

anything else i can do ?

Download the Hitachi Drive Tools. You can find it on the Ultimate Boot CD

This will run diagnostics.

Is this a regular constant clicking? If it is then it's not a good sign, commonly it's referred to as "the click of death".

ok cheers downloading it now will let u know how i get on

its also started to popup some windows live messenger configuration box everytime i boot my pc :-(

i wouldnt say it was regular constant, just occasionally it seems.

Just tried it

Disposition code = 0x72

so would not do complete test

According to the DFT manual a 0x72 is a SMART error. That and the other symptoms suggest the drive is dead.
