This has been asked before but I am still unclear if my SSD is aligned or not.
Background: I am upgrading my main Q6600 workhorse after data loss of my whole installs directory (yes I know should have backed it up) by upgrading ram, installing a pair of WD red 1Tb drives (raid 1) for my installs directory and an SSD for the OS drive. The existing hard drive is dual boot with Win7 64bit and XP Proff and I have lost a lot of the software so didnt wish to install Win 7 from scratch so have cloned the drive with Ghost 11.5.
All has gone well, the PC booted first time without having to do a startup repair as mentioned in some forums. Now for alignment. All the SSD forum posts say you must align the partition if this was not a clean install. I have checked MSinfo32 for the"Partition Starting Offset" and divided by 4096 as suggested and it does not divide exactly therefore supposedly my partitions are not aligned. To double check I downloaded and ran AS SSD and it says my win7 partition is OK but the xp partition is not. I am confused as the "Partition Starting Offset" of 32,256bytes divided by 4096 = 7.875 similarly "Partition Starting Offset" for the xp partition is 50,330,599,424 which divided by 4096 is 12287.743 so again not a whole number. I have also run diskpart and it says partition 1 is offset by 31Kb and partition 2 offset by 46Gb.
Am I doing something wrong or should I ignore AS SSD and try and align the partitions??
