After 3 years my Crucial C300 64GB SSD is full, despite it really just being for the OS.

Purchased this Samsung on Friday from OCUK for delivery later this week...

YOUR BASKET
1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD120BW) £79.99
Total : £88.69 (includes shipping : £7.25).

But now I see the Kingston HyperX on sale this week at £69.99...

YOUR BASKET
1 x Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (SH103S3/120G) £69.95
Total : £78.65 (includes shipping : £7.25).

Higher read & write speeds...£10 cheaper...Should I amend my order to the Kingston??!

Assuming the deal on it ends today, so need a quick answer!

:-)

Samsung, after the farce of having two ocz sandforce controller ssd's fail, i wouldnt risk it again regardless of manufacturer.

I had the Kingston HyperX some time ago and it was great, between those two, you cant really go wrong.
Id take the Samsung though just for the warranty and knowing itll be reliable.

Both 3 have year warranty as not comparing against 840 Pro. And think Kingston is UK based manufacturer RMA too.

Unless you run benchmarks I doubt you would notice a difference.

Doesn't seem to be any user applied firmware updates for the HyperX, and no idea if the Toolbox utility does anything useful.

Depends if you want cheaper now as will end up replacing it in a few years due to it being too small or vastly superseded as SATA revision 3.2 gets implemented on motherboards.

Samsung EVO 120GB should be available within a few days.

That's where my money would be spent. (£87 though).

Having said that, I`ve installed a few 840 120gb, and despite their "slow" write speed, they seem fast.

go for Kingston then as it is MLC not the TLC. Last longer and has faster speed

I`ve said many times, TLC is not going to be an issue for the majority of users, it'll last more than long enough. A couple of 840 250GBs were tested recently to find out expected lifespan -

The faster speed (write speed mainly) of the Kingston is not going to be noticed in everyday use. There will be little difference in the user experience of either SSD.

Either SSD would be a decent buy. I'd go with the Samsung, as I`ve installed quite a few of them and found them to be fast and reliable (not to mention one of the cheapest options). However, as the Kingston is slightly cheaper in this case, then it might be the one to choose.

Sandforce for sure! Just because the newer SSDs are hotter & smells good, doesnt necessarily mean they are functionally good too! who knows? But for me trusting a brand like SF means a lot because no one guarantees reliability like they do!

I know they are functinally good, I own one and have installed more than a few others.

About to see how functional a Samsung 840 Evo 250GB is, now it's arived. :)
