Hi all

I have a 840 SSD and was looking to replace with a 840 EVO (using the old 840 on another PC).

Concerned about the EVO bug fix issued by Samsung as it is not clear if it needs to be re-run from time to time and no fix issued for the 840 so far http://techreport.com/news/27286/samsung-working-to-fix-slowdowns-on-840-series-ssd

Can anyone please provide more info and or recommend a good alternative SSD, preferably using MCL 2bit rather than the TLC 3bit used by Samsung?

Mx100 is good I got a samsung as perfer then and cheaper

Are you saying your Samsung SSD does not have the bug or it does but you still prefer it to other makes?

When I last checked, the Crucial mx100 was less expensive!

The Samsung "fix" is intended to be a one-off operation (to flash the latest firmware and then carry out a data "refresh"). In fact, once the firmware has been updated, the update will refuse to run again.

Crucial MX100 seems to be the current popular choice. I`ve installed a couple so far, and they seem OK.

Personally prefer the Kingston HyperX and Intel 7xx drives as alternatives. Though the 840 EVOs are great drives they don't seem to stand up to heavy use as well as other SSDs - once they start retiring blocks it seems you really need to secure erase them and restore the data or they get progressively more problematic.
