Samsung 840 series of SSD now online and ready for order here at OcUK!!

Bought a 256gb 830 only a couple a weeks ago & have now decided on another for a games drive.

Looked @ the 840 pro, BUT can't help think, Would i really be able to see the stated speed increases in everyday use over the 830 for the additional £60+ premium

Think though if the prices fall any more on the 830's as they have ever so slightly since buying my 830 3 weeks ago think that will seal it for me without doubt...

Just get 830 and save your £60

+1

The 840 PRO is definitely better than the 830, but not by enough that most people will notice. The 5 year warranty is nice though, but not worth the 50% extra.

Not so sure about the non-PRO, which has slower max speeds than the 830 (not that you'll notice). TLC NAND is supposed to lower the cost by 30-40% but the 840 is still more expensive (at launch admittedly). When a 256gb 840 hits ~£100 it might be more tempting, though I'd like to see some more concrete figures about TLC endurance. SLC is ~100,000 p/e cycles, MLC is ~10,000.....

I'm sorry but these are not competitive prices. The 512GB PRO for example can be had for considerably cheaper elsewhere. :( And it's pre-order everywhere so I don't think the "well we've got stock" line applies.

These look good! But the price is too high for me at the moment. When they get closer to the 830 prices then I could be tempted. Looking at the press release for these they should come out about the same price as the 830's...

As soon as I get info on exact specs to put on the website along with exact pricing I honestly couldnt say.

Once I have this info I put the product live :)

My 256GB 830 is a a godsend..... maybe if i get round to finishing this old spare pc I might wack one of these in...

Definitely do not regret getting my 830 256gb 2 months ago. Simply amazing performance, didn't cost me much more than my 64gb did nearly 2 years ago.
