Hi, I recently purchaced this SSD which I installed last week,
I disconnected the old HDD and connected the SSD, did a clean install of windows 8.1 on to the SSD.

Updated graphics drivers http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+8.1+-+32
mobo drivers http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows+8.1+-+64# then windows updates.
Updated BIOS to 2603 latest one.
I then ran samsung magician`s OS Optimization, which I set to `maximum performance`and then ran `Performance optimization` and enabled Rapid mode.
followed steps in this guide http://www.thessdreview.com/ssd-gui...ptimization-guide-ultimate-windows-8-edition/
But It dosn`t seem much faster than my old HDD. Slightly quicker at booting/shutting down.
For instance I unzipped a 213mb file on the desktop whick took 1min 13sec to unzipp. not much different to my old HDD.

My HDtune benchmark shows 350MB/s but others i`ve seen posted for the same drive all show 500MB/s for a good/healthy drive.

Any sugestions on what else I can try doing.
Thanks for reading
Kim

My specs:-
win 8.1 64-bit
MSI Radion R9280x gaming edition OC 3072mb GDDR5
AMD Piledriver FX8320 black edition @4.1Ghz
Asus M5a97 EVO R2.0 AMD970chipset(socket AM3+)DDR3 mother board
TeamGroup Elite Black 8gb(2x4gb)DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600Mhz
Seagate Barracuda 500gb sata 6Gb/s 16mb cache
CoolerMasterHyper 212 Evo cpu cooler

Iv`e added a couple of screen shots from Magician performance benchmark, HDtune and device manager.

have you installed the sata drivers from the manufactures website for the mobo?

in HD tune have you changed the test size to 8mb? can do this in file and options then benchmark (its set to 64k by default)

I noticed a big difference going from a HDD to a SSD and I am using a sata 2 port with 250mb read and write.

I have rapid mode disabled as no improvement having it enabled, I also have 2 of the drives as one is for the OS and the other is for games

oh wait you can run the read test on an empty drive anyway will post a screenshot in a minute
er okay not sure it worked properly on an empty drive but seems to have?

go to file and options, under benchmark on the left change it to 8mb and re run the test under the benchmark tab. people don't tend to use the file benchmark tests

K done

Only the first 19gb has files though and it shows on the graph
My kingston os drive is like a yoyo (lol good for another 8 years according to ssdlife)

Yes I`ve installed the latest SATA driver from from the Asus site. I disabled Rapid mode and ran magician benchmark agian. The Random read/write IOPS readings look low compared to other test results I`ve seen.

I changed the test size to 8mb in HDtune and that test looks ok now.

My system wasn`t particulary slow to begin with, I had some spare cash and thought i`d treet myself, maybe I was expecting to much.

Anyway thanks for looking
Kim

I will run the Samsung benchmark on my PC when I get home and post the results so you can compare but bare in mind I am using sata 2 ports not sata 3

just found this when I was testing my sata 3 ports of HD tune.

Coming from another SSD then the difference will be not that huge outside benchmarks unfortunately. I originally assumed you were coming from a traditional HDD so was surprised you couldn't feel the difference.

I was under this impression too.

if its from a SSD to another make\model SSD then its not going to be much of a difference

I am coming from a traditional HDD a Seagate Barracuda 500gb

Although Windows 8.1 seems to boot faster than Windows 7 (I`ve not had much to do with 8.1), I would still expect to see a very noticeable decrease in boot time, and general responsiveness of your PC after switching to an SSD.

The last set of benchmarks you posted look pretty good, and are certainly a lot better than you would get with a HDD. IOPS are a bit low, but that shouldn't prevent your PC from "flying" with that SSD installed.

It's a bit odd !

I don't think the amd sata3 are quite as fast as the intel sata3 are they?

not sure

They aren't (or they weren't the last time I used them).

The OP should still be experiencing a good improvement in performance though.

In fact, there's usually a decent performance improvement when an SSD is used with SATA 1. I know, I`ve tried it !

29.446 here with my crappy kingston drive.
windows boot 12, desktop 17

best time 19seconds from 2012
I've got to much crap set to start on windows boot these days
