I've just brought a Samsung 850 Pro 256GB to replace an older Intel SSD, do I need to install the Magician software for anything? Presumably leaving TRIM up to the OS is okay?

Thanks.

You don't need to install anything, TRIM is handled by the OS.

The magician software will allow you to:
- enable rapid mode (which is pointless as far as I can tell)
- increase overprovisioning
- firmware updates

TRIM is done by the OS so nothing in the software for this.

software for the drive checks firmware updates and allows you to do changes ro the OS depending on what you want.

rapid mode is pointless, doesn't help at all apart from benchmarks in their software, I have the same drive and leave it disabled as no difference with it enabled or disabled.

software also allows you to set OP (over provisioning) which can be done manually through disk manager.

link to the software is below

its very usefull, you can do speed tests, ive just enabled it, and its just trippled the speed amaziong
the write speed went from 500, to nearly 3000 mbs,
im sure it boots up 3 seconds faster now, probably my imagination :)

fogive my lack of knolage, what do you mean by 2 sata ports? how do you change it to 2 ports?
i got
1721 and 2931

I mean that the port my SSD is connected too on my motherboard is sata 2 which means I cant get my full SSD speed as it requires a sata 3 port.

they are normally coloured different to sata 2 ports

shown here in the magician software
