Samsung 9100 Pro

Was waiting on a pre-order at OCUK for a 4Tb T705 but have just cancelled and gone with a 4Tb 9100 instead.

New build is currently being built, and a decent sized fast NVME can only help all round, IMO.
I thought the T705 was considered faster than the 9100?

Don’t think there’s much in it TBH, and it was a case of what’s currently available as my new PC is being built this week.

If the T705 had come into stock sooner I would have stuck with it.

Don’t think I’ll have any complaints about the 9100 Pro anyway!

Ah right. I missed the "pre" order part. Yeah makes sense.

Not so sure about that.

Installed the 9100 (Gen 5) which arrived this afternoon: loading into games is smoother and quicker than my trusty 990pro (Gen 4)
Surprised you noticed any difference. I was looking at the T705 and I decided to go for a 990 Pro. For general use including games it makes pretty much no difference other than bench marks.

Do these drives work in PCI-E 4 slots - obviously with a capped max speed?

I'm wondering whether the random read writes etc would be better than a 990pro because of the new controller, but also because when I do move to a gen v motherboard I won't have to buy a new drive... having said that I haven't looked at prices yet!!!

I understand they are backwards compatibility: indeed, I mistakenly placed one in the Gen 4 slot on an initial build! It worked fine, but obviously with the (slower) capped speeds.

In the datasheet Samsung say it is backwards compatible with gen 3 and gen 4, though they mention specifically: 4 lane, which could be an issue with some boards.
