Hi, total hard drive noob needing help!

I've just installed a Samsung 970 EVO SSD to the motherboard M2 slot, all is great and working fine with no reported conflicts, but..

I'm pretty sure the read and write should be considerably higher? The only issue I can see is that the BUS (ports?) for my original C drive and the new drive are numbered the same?

The drive works absolutely fine so I'm not really in trouble just curious and concerned it may bolloxing the system?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte X99 UD4 and is NVME able and the cpu is I7 5930.

Any help really appreciated, not done drives before!

Hi pesst

I think your m2 connector may provide only 2 lanes of PCIe. To get the best out of your Samsung 970 EVO it needs 4 lanes. If you have a PCIe slot spare with 4 or more lanes, you could use a PCIe to M2 adapter.

Brilliant, thanks. I'll get one ordered and see what happens, your a star. :D

@pestt

Did you instal Samsung's NVMe driver? Also is your motherboard on the latest BIOS?

Yeah, did both. It seems the M2 slot on the board is only x2 as JR1 suggested and not enough. I've got the Akasa adaptor from OC coming soon so will put it into a pcie slot and hopefully should get the right result. Fingers crossed, will post the result as soon as I get it installed. Cheers.
