So im building a system and for the first time will have an m.2 slot, i currently run a Samsung 850 evo SSD on SATA2, now the speed difference on paper is HUGE but im wondering if actual real world usage will see a difference, does anyone know? Im rather pumped to get away from SATA2 and USB2 so hope it will be speedier.

Boot time may get a little quicker, but other than that, probably not.

Or if you're transferring large files to other high speed storage mediums (probably not)
I thought as much, it does seem the initial HDD > SSD is the largest performance boost possible, after that its miniscule. I do photo edit a lot on very large images so maybe i will see some performance boost there! Either way im excited!

I just replaced my 850 EVO 250GB with a 970 EVO 500GB on my Z97 Asus GENE VII. Its running fine at PCI-E 2.0.
I do not have the full PCI-E 4.0 speeds, but it is a bit faster, but nothing that I really notice. I think the real benefit is the m.2 form factor losing the SATA CABLE!
