Hi Guys, (I doubt there are any girls. :D)

Can anyone help/explain?

So we have Samsung phones we use the Samsung cloud to back up, however as you have to set up two step verification. How does this work if you have your phone stolen for example? You wouldn`t be able to say go to your samsung account on your pc and access your data or transfer to a new phone as you would need the phone to do the two step verification?

Can someone possibly explain? Sorry if this doesnt make any sense. :)

This goes for most 2FA/MFA. You would need to report your phone/sim lost so it gets blocked. Get a new sim and phone to re-access 2FA/MFA.

Or on most accounts you can say you can’t access the phone and usually most places give you backup codes to enter. I have a folder with about 50 backup codes for different places. Except where I store my codes also has 2FA/MFA attached so I keep them on a usb stick in my draw as well so I can at least access some of the services.

Not 100% sure if Samsung Cloud does this though. Did it ask you to save a backup code at all?

I dont recall Samsung Cloud asking for a back up code, but doesnt that defeat point of two step verification between phone and say PC/tablet? :)

Their version of a cloud back up anyway is bizare, i have my phone set to auto back up text messages to the cloud, seen this morning despite the auto back up featture being on, last back up..............MAY 2020 RAGE  (Disclaimer, yes its set to mobile data and wifi back ups)

Thanks :) :)

2FA/MFA is to stop people gaining access remotely without that code from the phone. It steps up security massively and as long as you don’t give that code to someone who you don’t know the security is improved a lot.

If you lose your phone then it’s easy to get back in once you have a new one with sim. A lot of 2FA/MFA can use an app now and some support web based clients rather than a SMS based key.
