Hey guys, have a quick question.

I am upgrading a friends PC for Christmas and have bought her a 120GB Samsung EVO 840.

I was thinking I might partition the SSD into two to give me a partition for the OS install and and maybe 20GB or so I could use as a cache for her 500GB HDD.

I'm assuming this is possible but her motherboard is B75 chipset so Intel RST isn't supported natively, I would need to rely on another means of creating the cache.

I was wondering if:

1. This will be worth it?
2. What are my options for creating and managing the cache partition?

Cheers

Update the firmware using the latest Samsung Magician software. Fixes a slowdown bug.

+1 to no point partitioning.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Thought it might give her a slight boost to her storage drive but if it's not going to be worth it I'll keep the the SSD in one volume for the OS and a few select applications.

I would have preferred to get her a larger SSD but the way things are going I'm already a few hundred quid into a 'cheap' upgrade for Christmas.

Noted on the firmware upgrade bledd, cheers.

you wouldn't be able to do it anyway if the board doesn't support caching, not sure on b75,you need to set it to raid aswell
