Samsung Evo 840 RAID0 query

Hi guys, just a quick question, I was just reading through the manual regarding the Samsung Evo 840's and discovered the Magician software doesn't support RAID, am I right in assuming this software has something to do with the overall performance of these drives ?, im sure I read on here somewhere that someone was having half performance with this drive until he installed the software and enabled something within it, sorry if this sounds a bit vague.

I was going to pick up a couple of Evo 840's 120gb on Thursday from OCuk and RAID0 them together.

All I want to know is which is better, 2 x 120gb in RAID0 or just 1 x 250gb ?

you don't need the Samsung magician tool tbh,it should still work/enable rapid mode ect

you wont see much diff in raid0 either,plus it slows up boot times a little due to showing the raid info screen at startup

better off with a single drive but its upto you

Pulled this from the manual.

RAPIDmode Limitations

1) RAPIDmode accelerates only one SSD even though user has several Samsung
SSDs(840 PRO, 840 EVO, and 840 EVO mSATA).

2) If there are two identical SSDs connected, RAPIDmode may accelerate the
incorrect SSD.

3) RAIDmode sets is not supported
as an accelerated drive.

I think the best option is to just go for one.

Just go for 1x 250 - RAPID mode doesn't really help much outside of benchmarks except for very niche useages and/or possibily if your limited to SATA2.

RAID0 unless you know your use is mostly transfer rate bound reduces one of the bigger bonuses of having an SSD for those super quick access times.

Thanks guys, think I will just go with a single 250gb, I dont need tonnes of room on my main drive anyway.

Just saw on another forum a guy who tested a 1 x 250gb vs 2 x 500gb in raid0, not much difference at all, the biggest difference was in the 4k test, and the sequential write was a bit faster in the RAID0, but I believe the larger capacity the drive is, the better it performs anyway.
