Samsung Evo 840 Replacements - Suggestions

Well i currently have 2 500GB Evo 840's installed in RAID0. Unfortunately they are still running on the old Firmware which has caused a lot of people issues.

I am starting to feel how sluggish these are, i know i can update the firmware but that involves hassle to unraid them etc.

Also due to wanting backups i also want to change to RAID1.

I have been considering taking a little hit and replacing these with the newer samsung EVO 850 Drives. As i am using the PC a lot for work and due to a lot of work commitments doing this way would be easier.

Would it really be worth doing for the preformance increase ill see?

Will hold off until the end of the month until black friday just incase get a good deal on them.

to be honest i would do the firmware update on both the SSDs.

i have a 850 evo and its a good SSD, had a 840 before but died so was replaced with a 850 from the place i bought it from.

Don't bother with RAID on SSD. Update the firmwares.

I went from 840 Evo to 850 Evo and can't say I noticed a difference in speed. (I wanted a second SSD for Steam anyway)

I recently swapped my 250gb 840 EVO (transfered into a laptop) to a 500gb 850 EVO in my PC. No noticeable difference in performance.

Despite a lot of suggestions that the 840 EVO was badly flawed, the latest firmware does seem to have solved the performance degradation issue, and the 840 EVO is still a very decent SSD.
