I've just bought a "Samsung 840 EVO Basic 2.5" 250GB SATA III SSD" to fit as part of my system upgrade. (it was cheap because of the new models)

I'd assumed a caddy/converter would be easy to buy but things seem a bit more complex.

So, what's the best/cheapest 3.5" to 2.5" converter?

Yes, it's going in a desktop PC case. I suppose I could just stick it with blu-tak somewhere?

I'm just aiming to build my upgrade this weekend and would be really frustrated if I was missing a cable/mount etc. It's only this SSD that's worrying me. It's drive only...

What case are you using?

A lot of cases have mount holes for small drives already in them, alternate as you mentioned blu-Tac or stick it somewhere out the way :p

I can't tell from the pics on OCuk (assuming this is your case http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-229-AN ), however as it appears to have 3.5" HDD braces/holders, they may have holes to accomodate 2.5" drives as well (3.5" drives will probably secure on the side, while the 2.5" will probably secure on the bottom of the brace).

Failing that there is the following: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-019-AK

That said, with the power cables and SATA cables generally being fairly stiff, the tension of the cables keeps my SSDs safely located in a 5" bay without any means of securing them (on the basis that I don't move the computer around... if you move yours a lot this may not be the best option)

Don't use blu tack.

Either screw in two of the side screws or use zip ties to secure it to the case. (Or buy the correct adapter)

I wouldn't use anything sticky. The heat changes in the case will turn the stickiness to gunk.

I used the asaka double one in the wifes Antec 300 case as she had 2 drives to mount in there.

As no moving parts doesn't hurt to stick it in a larger bay and secure it with 1-2 screws if thats a possibility.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Good advice re. not using blu-tak.

I'll try it with velcro or some of the other suggestions when I build the system tomorrow. If that doesn't work then I'll go for the adapter.
Cheers :)
