Looking to upgrade my ssd and have narrowed it down to a Samsung evo pro or ocz vector, from the research I have done there is very little between the two, the evo range seems to be very popular on here at the moment but the vectors interest me also, any recommendations?

personally i would never buy an ocz ssd as there customer service is shocking. i do however own a 840 evo and it is a fantastic drive with easy to use software.

Samsung EVO all the way. My experience with OCZ is nothing but positive, but their reputation as a whole isn't good. The Samsung drives are just about the best on the market currently.

That's pretty unanimous then! Samsung it is but is there a real world difference between evo and pro? Is the price premium worth it?

I think the real world difference is the 2 years extra warranty on the pro.

You'll also find that the TLC Nand used in the Evo will not last as long as the better quality Nand in the pro. Eventually ;).

I'm on my second rma with ocz vector. I just got tired of fail drive and got the evo. It is to soon to know if it will last more then two month but so far so good. Customer service at ocz was excellent with me, very nice and fast. I will be selling my replacement vector on ebay.

Does anyone know what speeds I can expect from either of these drives on sata II as opposed to sata III?

Nearly as fast (sorry, that's not a very technical or precise answer).

There is not a massive amount of real world difference between running an SSD on SATA II or SATA III.

What can make just as much, if not more difference, is the manufacturer of the SATA controller. Intel is usually regarded as being the fastest and best.

I have two ocz ssd vertex4 which similar to vector one for windows and one for games and I have never had problem which them and even updating firmware easy ect so from my experience all good but iv heard good things bout Samsung evo pro ssds and linus tech tips have good review this week on you tube to check it out.

The Samsung evo pro ment to use your pc ram aswell to speed things up linus says up to a 1 gb of ram. If I was buying new ssd I buy a Samsung evo pro :)
