i have wondered for some time on how the samsung EVO is cheaper than the 840 pro and a little more expensive from the 840 basic where is is a lot faster considering rapid mode. What has samsung done to make this ssd cheaper and yet really fast, is it as reliable as the 840 pro or is this just a pricing strategy samsung are using, it just seems too good to be true.

Pro uses MLC + has got 5 year warranty, so obviously it is more expensive.
840 is older model, so obviously it is cheaper than newer 840 Evo.

what's so difficult to understand?

RAPID mode doesn't make much difference in everyday use, but benchmarks tell a different story.

I`ve stated many times that the difference in real world perforamnce of the Samsung 840 basic and 840 Pro is not great. I replaced my 840 250GB basic with an EVO 250GB (RAPID enabled), can't say that I notice much, if any difference in speed.

As kefan77 stated, the Pro uses a different type of NAND memory, and has a longer warranty. In theory, the Pro will outlast an Evo. I doubt this will be an issue for the vast majority of users.

840 pro is more expensive than the evo and slower so it doesnt make sense, but given the extended warranty, i guess thats the reason why
