Samsung Evo vs Pro

According to test results, the evo actually beats the pro, however the evo uses TLC NAND (19 years) which is cheaper to produce and has a lower life expectancy than the pro which user MLC NAND (60 years)

Although MLC NAND is faster it's is still only 2 bits per cell, TLC however is 3 bits per cell which puts the evo on a par with the pro and in some cases beats it.

I've been studying these drives myself for a while and also wanted to know what the difference was as I plan on getting a couple of evo myself.

I'd get the Evo because it is 2/3 of the price of the Pro so even if it does die earlier after warranty you can use that extra £100 on a new upgrade.

Unless you are hammering (not literally !) an EVO, you are unlikey to wear it out.

The issue of SSDs "wearing out" is almost an non-issue.

And SSD reliabilty is now probably better than mechanical drives. I'd take an EVO over a mechanical drive every time if I were looking for reliability.

I just gave in to my inner demons and ordered the Samsung 1TB. It's not *that* much more than the 500gb once you take into account the £50 cashback

yeah this is pretty awesome...took a few attempts to enable ahci in win 8 but the samsung clone software was simple and the drive is very fast. Ok its my first SSD so I might say that no matter what but this is great :D Boot time is sub 5 seconds and once signed in the machine is responsive almost instantly now.
