Samsung EVO vs PRO

Hi all,

Sorry if this has already been posted but i'd like to know if its worth spending the extra money to get a PRO over the EVO?

Samsung EVO
Samsung PRO

Any help/advice is welcome.

Depends what your using it for. If it's just an OS/Game drive get the EVO.

Not worth it,evo is just as good and fast

Another user here with both Pro and Evo 850 SSDs.

As the Pro is designed to last twice the writes (150 vs 75 TB) I use those on PCs with any software that causes a lot of writes (dev tools, VMs and a heavily used home server landing drive). The Evos are used for more standard home desktops and laptops. I am probably being too cautious but I prefer that approach for key PCs.

As for speed, I cannot tell any difference in use.

The Pro is slightly better in some benchmarks, but not noticeably different in reality. However, with the Pro you're paying for the longevity. It'll degrade slower/handles more writes.

I`ve installed Samsung 840s, 840 EVOs, 850 EVOs, Crucial MX100s, Crucial Bx100s in various laptops and PCs over the past few years.

In normal everday use, I couldn't tell any difference between them. They are all way better than a mechanical hard drive.

If he's doing a lot of writes he'll want the PRO, it's sustained writes are better than the EVO. Especially when the drive fills up.

the pro is built to last longer. However if it is just for an OS install or games then the Evo is probably all you need and it is cheaper too.

The Pro has hardware based encryption if you use bitlocker.

Drives for games will take a beating on writes with the size of games these days and their patches. I Have recently swapped out a 2 and a bit year old Crucial SSD because it's performance has dropped quite a bit. I do tend to install/uninstall games more frequent than most people though.

I got the pro last time just for the extended 5 year guarantee so that I had a easy way of getting a replacement if it failed.

The performance drops off? My SSD must be 3 years old think it's a Samsung 830 (orange square), thought they just break when they give up? Mine must be really slow it's only a 120gb, and has been hammered.
