My new Samsung F1 1tb 32m came today and i'm slightly disappointed with it. This is due to the reviews I read about it on ocuk by you lot. Theres nothing wrong with the drive and it's too early to compare speeds yet but the reviewers were all raving on about how silent this drive was and admittedly its not loud but it's louder than my last wd hdd.

So have the reviewers never been spoiled with a truly quiet hdd or am i unlucky enough to get a noisy one because they said it runs at a whisper yet i'd say it runs twice as loud as my previous.

Send it back - also you shouldnt go by the reviews on ocuk as 99% of the ones saying bad things dont get posted on there.

Yep I agree that the reviews are cherry picked on OCUK. I also just purchased one of these drives and it is relatively quiet. Some peoples definition of quiet could be entirely different from the next person.

Not sure about sending back as it may be running at proper noise level I was just expecting it to be quieter after reading the reviews.

Mine is silent but a lot depends on the mounting/case. Any drive, for example, screwed into an aluminium case can sound loud, especially on seek. If possible try it "unmounted" to test.

Mine is pritty much silent, and has been since i bought it.

Tried it out still not silent but have noticed a slight amplification when in the case although the hdd itself is connected through a plastic clipped holder when in my rig.
