hi just wondering i bought 2 Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache use them on raid 0 is it just me but i sort of hear like a loud tick from these drives is that normal for these anyone know...when i turn the pc say of or to sleep it does it twice like a second apart thanks for any info on these .

I have 2 x F1's in a RAID 1 data array and when they go to sleep there is a definite mechanical noise, although nothing to worry about. Have you checked your power saving settings as they could just be going to sleep and if you are worried then disable that.
 
ahh the power saving says turn off after 20 mins whats best for this or should i just leave it as it is the same noise as i get when i turn the pc off or too sleep myself manually thanks for that makes sense now but just never heard it before on my other drives first time ive bought samsung thanks again for that ill have a little play about with it.
 
My 640gb makes a "tick" noise when switching on or off.

Also when pc is restarting. I guess it's normal since everyne who I've asked who has one gets the same noise.

I've had it with all the 1TB F1s I've used - perhaps not quite so much of a "tick" as a sort of brief metallic scraping sound when powering down.

It seems to be a characteristic of the model range, so I wouldn't worry about it in this case, although you're quite right to keep an ear open for anything that doesn't sound normal... :)
