I installed windows7 on a new F3 the other day after previously having windows7 installed on a Western Digital Caviar 500GB 16mb 7200rpm (WD5000AAKS-00YGA0) I would have thought the Samsung would be faster but my boot time takes longer now about 32 seconds compared to my old 26 seconds and game load time is up by a second or two.

Also I know its not exactly a reliable thing to use but I noticed that the Windows Experience Index for the "Primary Hard Drive" is still rated the same at 5.9 I would have thought a newer hard drive would have scored higher.

I downloaded HDtune and scanned for errors it was all fine, here's the benchmark results :

Also would this speed drop have anything to do with bios detecting the drive as IDE? Sorry for the essay tried to keep it as short and to the point as possible.

Do a similar benchmark of the WD? And it's practically impossible to score higher than 5.9 without an SSD; I think two velociraptors RAIDed sometimes scores a 6.0.

Your 'real life score' is meaningless because you're using a new install of Windows and so many different factors. The F3 is faster than the Black, if you cloned your install onto it it would be slower.

I'll be installing win7 on my F3 this weekend, I'll let you know how I get on.

Generally it takes about a week or so before a fresh install is running properly. Pagefile and downloads etc take a while to get themselves sorted, so I wouldn't worry.

yea do let me know how you get on! I suppose my real problem is I was expecting a noticeable improvement from the WD.

There isn't going to be one, only in benchmarks will you see a difference. So if you got it as a performance upgrade then it's an odd choice. If you just needed another drive and/or wanted a quieter disk then it was still a good buy.

Nah wasn't a performance upgrade, I plan to get an SSD around christmas time, I just thought there might be a small speed increase since the WD is pretty old!
