Samsung galaxy note 10.1...the most powerful tablet ever?

Just can decide whether to buy this or not. Can't afford an ipad and probably overpriced for what you get. This I can get on the high street with the discount for about £260 which I can afford. But for every positive review I read there is an equal number of very negative. I have been to some of those big superstores to check them out but the demo models have very few apps etc on them so couldn't really judge. Any advice guys??

Honestly, the website reviews for this tablet baffled me when I read them, they seem to have found things to moan about, or mark the tablet down for, which I've simply not even found, and it seems that nearly every other person who owns the tablet feels the same way.

The only actual downside is the lower screen resolution, but if that's not going to ruin the experience for you then it's one of the best tablets around.

If your serious about using a tablet for productivity (rather than just games and kids stuff like the ipad) there is no competitor to the note 10.1 mate ;)

Speed is awesome and the pen is impressive, - only downside I thought that would put me off was the screen res (coming from an ipad 3 I was spoilt) but having been using it for the past month or so, I don't miss the higher-res at all. ;)

sound is pretty awesome aswell, front facing speakers sound very good indeed.

A couple quick questions:
Performance wise, in terms of smooth scrolling and gaming ability, how does it compare to the Nexus 10?
Can you use the microsd to store apps, or just data?
What is the current latest version Android on it. i know it shipped with 4 initially but have there been updates since?

In order:

I've not used a Nexus 10 myself, but I've never noticed any lag/slowness in the 10.1. If you've got access to an S3 or anything similar then it's easily as fast as that, for reference. Hopefully somebody else can answer this one properly though.
You can, but it requires root to do so.
That depends on the version, the WiFi only unit is still on 4.0.4, whereas the GSM version is on 4.1 now. They'll both be updated fairly soon though (no idea when though!), Samsung have released a few videos showing off the new features coming in the updates.

Cheers :)
I have an S3 so confident based on that! I currently have an original Tab 10.1 and find it very laggy and not very good on some of the new games.
The root for apps seems to be the same as the S3 then, no surprise I guess as both Samsung. Annoying really.

Which I go for depends on ongoing availability of the Nexus 10. One advantage is that for the same RRP price I could get the 32Gb version and have less of a problem with the storage but they just seem so random as when they are in stock!
I think there is cashback still on the Note though..?

What negative comments have you seen?

If you search for any of the 'expert' reviews they tend to emphasise build quality, resolution, limited apps for multitasking, limited use of s-pen, lack of quality/high end feel/aesthetics etc. Yet, when you read customer reviews, they are very positive in comparison. You'd nearly think the experts are in the pocket of rivals.

You have to bare in mind that a lot of the "expert" reviews are reviewing it as a £400 tablet, which was it's price at launch. That puts it squarely in competition with the iPad, Asus Transformer etc.
At the £260 price point people are picking it up for at the moment, it's a much better proposition an I would agree that there is nothing in the same bracket that even remotely compares.

I wouldn't say that the price is the issue so much, more so that a lot of the issues the reviewers have slated it for simply aren't there. Or the ones that are they've blown massively out of proportion. For example one review knocked a load of points off of the tablet because the multitasking was limited to only specific apps, that seems ridiculous to me, as no other tablet even offers multitasking in that way. Regardless of if the feature isn't perfect, it's still something that has to be a bonus to the tablet, as nothing else can offer it. How they can knock points off for that is beyond me!

That is a bit silly isn't it.
It has this really cool feature +10 points.... But it only works on some things.... -1000 points.

Only in germany, we UK users are probably gunna be amongst the last just like the 3G rollout was (UK 3G users got the update nearly 3 months afterwards!!) - i.e. After the new flippin year - grrrrr.

Mine is currently downloading a 429mb update now. So that should be it I hope.

Where are people finding this for 260?

Use Topcashback to get about £10 back from the price of £308 (tesco direct). - £50 cashback from samsung and it will be just below £250 ;) - Even the likes of Argos are doing it for £308 now (claim cashback and still only £258)

Yeah UK one not long out of the box. Just running it now 4.1.1

aaaarggghhhh - sick of mine giving me google play FC's, and todays lock up whilst I was typing the last note of a 2 hour long meeting (which went down the pan!) makes me impatient!!!
Still nothing via OTA of kies :(
