Samsung Galaxy S24 Family Thread

Always had screen protectors. Mine is only ever in my pocket either by itself, or with another phone (but samsung screen always facing away from the other phone)

Rubbery/filmy crap screen protector on S23U came off at some point and I ran it for months without a protector. Now if I look at it under a bright light (and clean screen) there are various tiny scratches. Do you non-screen protector guys and girls not experience that? Or just not fussed?

Does anyone use a non-One UI launcher? I use nova but finding the lag when going back to home and being able to tap another app to open quite annoying

I am also using Nova. No lag at all. But i have tured off all animations in the delevoper module. I think it makes the phone much snappier.

I get why people might need then, I meant people here specifically.

I imagine most of the posters here don't put them in handbags.
Maybe they use manbags

But in all seriousness, I guess there are those of us who choose to be extra careful, as these aren't cheap phones any more. I prefer to not to take the risk personally, but there are people (like yourselves) who are quite happy to take that risk.

If you using gesture navigation then Nova is not great with animations on. When closing apps you have to wait until the animation finishes before you can do anything.

I have been using the 3 swipe button navigation for years but now that Samsung has removed it, I'm still deciding what was best for me.

tried nova and had to switch back to one ui.. it was stuttering too much between apps.

@mrk you mentioned good lock, I see one in playstore and a different looking one in galaxy store

Can you please link the version you're using? And you said navstar is needed too, to make the nav bar appear over apps, maximising screen real estate?

Real shame you can't hide it entirely like on S23U and just use the gestures up from the bottom
There are two on Google PLaystore, one i s Fine Lock, a 3rd party alt made by a dev that does similar things, the other is Good Lock lockscreen tweaks which is unrelated.

The Samsung store one is the official one:

I have noticed this with Niagara Launcher. If I swipe home and then immediately tap an app, nothing happens.

On my 1 IV, this same action would occasionally cause the last open app to glitch open with no animation. Sony fixed it though and I can swipe home and tap an app instantly. This was on android 13, still good on 14.
Hopefully Samsung fix it too...as I don't think I can use anything but Niagara now, it's too convenient!

On a different note, my S24 Ultra started vibrating earlier as if a call was coming in but there wasn't any. I couldn't see what was causing it but turning the screen off stopped it.

It's been there since my S22U... seems like it's an android thing :/

Why do so many of you bother with screen protectors? Do you put your phones in pockets with keys or something?

Never ever used one and never had a scratch.

I did completely smash one screen (2 months after I got a new S22 Ultra) but a screen protector would not have saved it.

That's the first phone I ever dropped and damaged and I've had mobile phones for 24 years.
Peace of mind more than anything, but I am tempted to take out Samsung Care+ and will remove it if I do.

Plus it's a lot easier to just wipe the screen clean of finger prints with a screen protector on, any issues with dirt in the cloth causing micro scratches are no concern either at that point.

Screen protectors have saved me many times from maybe not full on cracks, but most definitely drops where the phone slides, face down across a floor. I've picked them up to find hideous scrapes on tempered glass (or tpu ones for this type of fall) that can easily be replaced.

Wiping debris of a screen protector isn't stress inducing, wondering if there is some hard material that will cause 1 of the many micro scratches that will appear over time.

It's just a way of prolonging a heavily touched area.

Thank you!

It is, even on Pixel the experience isn't perfect if you use a third party launcher with gestures.
But some have had it fixed, like Sony. On Xperia the animation does the correct "shrink into the app icon" thing when swiping home from an app. Just a standard animate downwards thing on my Samsung. Doesn't bother me though, but the delay before I can tap an app does slightly!

It's definitely this with me. I put screen protectors on so I don't have to worry that something at some point will be on the screen (or a cloth etc) and cause micro scratches.
Oh, I removed all my fingerprints and re did them after installation of the glass, I found it was noticable slower with the glass on, but great after re-doing the prints.
This definitely helped with mine, too! Though I am finding this FPS is much more picky with dry skin than optical and side mounted sensors which don't care and work 100% of the time

For anyone that wants to debloat their phone from all the built in Samsung rubbish, the following is great with adb. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12jEGQftFUL3vAI03X0Ku1LgoWFQKdwPA_WHuLh_2ics/edit#gid=0

Be careful though not to delete things you shouldn't , its colour coded and has good descriptions
Just done a factory reset, after initially setting up with smart switch, now debloating the phone.

A full fresh install always feels better than copying from another device.

Thanks for the link

Just spotted in the Reset settings that on Samsung you get Unlimited cloud storage for 30 days where you can upload everything to the Samsung cloud and restore on a new device. Also you can do it all to a USB drive too like an external SSD which would be rather fast. Might be useful for some.

Depends on how you use your phone, if you install crap and have a messy structure then sure. Mine is like my Windows OS, never needs a fresh install, because the regular install is always well maintained. Just in-place upgrade each time or clone over and all done.

Yeah that makes sense. I do keep my phone clear of garbage facebook, tik tok & all that stuff.

Anyhow too late now it's flattened & just rebuilding now.
