Samsung Galaxy S24 Family Thread

2x zoom for macro, the way to go, this is a screengrab from a 4k60 video recorded earlier:

Ultimately as long as they fix the camera issues in the next couple of updates that's the main thing.

Other thing I noticed with my dog and my son's hair which are both dark and close to black is all details are lost , take the same photos with the Pixel 8 pro and it shows the shades and shadows and maintains the details .

I think they mentioned fixing this but let's see.

Battery life is phenomenal, I rebuilt mine from scratch and running full res and it's lasting easy through the day
I noticed the portrait shots for focusing were way better with the S23u (I think the colours are better on the S24u) so I hope they resolve this with the upcoming update.

Noticed taking scan photos of documents takes a loooong time to process after pressing the yellow T, compared to previous S23U. A small niggle but still annoying as I use the feature a lot.

It's worth pointing out that like with all cameras, it does boil down to how you manipulate how light fills the frame, where you stand by a window, ambient lighting etc. That screengrab could have ended up rubbish if an extra light was on and the blinds on the window were slightly less open for example!

Lighting is everything :)

Neighbour got a new dog, ddn't know until this sprightly hound ran up to me as I walked home from the shops. Naturally some slow-mo from 4k60 and pics to share using 2x zoom in photo mode:

I had tracking AF off by default so it was centre focusing in video mode, else it would have locked on and tracked the dog's eyes. Worth keeping in mind for next time.

Well my S24 Ultra is finally coming tomorrow; feels like its been an age waiting!
Can anyone recommend a screen protector?
I'm still using a Spigen tempered glass. It's ok now the glue around the edges has worn off and stopped attracting so much dust etc!
I think I'd replace it with one with black edges if or when the time comes though, due to the non flat bezel edges (the black edges ones extend out further than the others).

It's not blurry it's depth of field as it was left on centre AF bias not Tracking Autofocus. Tracking AF finds faces/eyes and tracks them across the whole frame, centre just uses averages to keep central parts in focus, but if you're moving quickly or the subject is, then it won't react quick enough. The main lens is also wide aperture and I used 2x zoom so the focal plane is even tighter. The result you see is completely expected for any optics under that sort of condition.

Some non-benchmarks/real world use comparison of battery life here between S23 and both Snapdragon and Exynos S24 variants. Though still with very significant amount of Wifi use instead of just mobile data:

With more mobile data use and longer standby, S23 would have no doubt done better in relation to Exynos S24.
Which also has advantage from dynamic refresh rate of LTPO screen allowing saving power.

So while no doubt improvement from S22 and older, there's definitely not first rate taste in Exynos S24.

We'll be paying to beta test computer games next!
Every user of Windows is nowadays alpha tester with how bad ideology and development process Microsoft has for Windows.

I've got a couple of the Samsung Anti Glare screen protectors that they have when I bought mine that haven't been used if you would like them.
Thinking of getting one of these - does it affect the effectiveness of the anti glare screen? That's one of the main features of the phone for me, it's a toss up whether to lose that or risk scratches!

I haven't used them so couldn't comment. The anti glare screen on the S24 Ultra is a game changer in itself and I'm risking is without any screen protector

I've been quite impressed with the Samsung screen protector - wasn't quite as easy to get on as a single piece glass but still keeps the anti-reflective properties in place and still managed to install it without any bubbles etc.
