So its been just over 3 years sinse i have had my computer and my Samsung hard drive it seems is now dying:mad:

My computer "windows" is saying i need to start backing up my files ect as it going to be dead soon.

So need some advice, what hard drive to replace my dying samsung.

Current hardrive is:
Samsung HD502IJ ATA 500 GB

Looking around site i cant think of a reson to get a bigger drive unless theres a good reson for having on.

So what drive do you suggest??
, i dont really want to spend a lot ie +£100 on one tbh given it isnt a SSD

thanks, a fast response is required if possible as my HDD is it seems on its last legs, so may be dead within a day or two....

I'd buy another Samsung, they're good drives. My PC and Server are stuffed with them and only had 1 failure in 3 years. (8 drives in total I think).

i dont believe the resons tbh

I work in business and from what i have found many companies are keeping their profit margins the same even when costs for production are going up, which is kinda greedy as most companies are making a very high profit margins and just dont want to lower them.

Most smaller companies have to take a profit cutt so they can offer a good price to customers, sadly a lot of companies who have been living on such high prifit margins dont wish them to be lowered thus the price hikes in certain areas....British gas for example.

back to topic though, i have never found mine "loud or vibery" so i think il stick to the samesung one, just wanted to check if this the best one to get?

Depends which ones you had. The F1s that we've had 2 of were fine, but the F3s make a right racket. I can hear them over all of my fans. (Two 5830s coolers, a 120mm in the PSU, a 140mm the roof, 120mm on the CPU cooler, 120mm on the side panel, and 2x120mm on the front of the case).

Mine are suspended on zip ties as well, so can't be reverberating through the case.

my hard drive failed yesterday night:(
Having to use another computer to go online now....

So with this in mind i going to order a new hard driver asap today, but after you saying its exstreamely loud i a little unsure now.

Can anyone else back this claim up that the F3 is very loud?

if so what other hard drivers as they all stupidly exspencive atm so want something thats not a pile of shi...

help allways welcome

never used a seagate before and no 1 reviewed them it seems here. still if its as good as samsung without the noise then it might be worth the look.

one of the HDD that seems to keep standing out is the
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB

It gets very good reviews everywhere and considering the price £30 more is it worth getting over the SeaGate 500gb??

(noise for the F3 1TB was reviewed as normal so that sounds good)

keep suggestions coming though, as this price increase is a joke given they have plenty of stock sitting in warehouses

I'd say to steer well clear of Samsung. Had 6 between my Mum's bloke and me, and they're all loud, vibey, and 2 of them have died in a 2 year period.

He's got rid of all of his now and moved to Seagate, reports that they're much quieter. No idea on reliability yet.

Prices are going stupid, but with good reason: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18331625

Dam and I just bought a samsung spinpoint 1TB 32mb cache drive...
Wish I had known this..although I have not opened the packaging yet as its in the post.
I bought it because I heard I should avoid the sea gate baracuda drives..

Everyone has a story.

Here's mine.

I'm currently using 12 Samsung drives, 8x1TB F3's and 4x2TB F4's, without any problems.

At current prices that's about £1,500 worth of HDD's

I've also used several more Samsung HDD's in builds for other people without any reported problems.

hi there mate, can you do us a huge favor and let us know how it all goes with that HDD?

I have decided that atm it looks like i going to have to "bite the bullet" and pay the silly prices.

Will be getting the exact same HDD you getting as i cannot see the point of getting a 500gb for £90 when i can get a 1GB for £120 so seems worth the extra.

just let us know how it goes/sounds your review of it will decide if i buy it or not most likely ;)

You can read about it here:

7,200-RPM terabytes from Hitachi, Samsung, Seagate, and WD face off

I decided now what i going to get.

Going to get this F3 samsung 500gb,
£89.99 still a bloody lot but not much i can do sadly about it:mad:

Question though.

With my current hard drive looking dead is it possible to transfer the data from it to the new hard drive once it arrives??

Or

If i manage somehow to get my dead hard drive working for a short period of time what can i do to transfer everything important onto the new HDD or DVD ect??

i really really dont want to install OS vista all over again onto new hard drive along with every bloody driver as it was a pain in the balls first time around with all those compatible issues.

Google is your best friend.

This may or may not help, I can't personalty vouch for this site though.
it might have a useful program to help you fix your hard drive on its list of programs, I think some of them are free.
Lower down the page it lists useful tools for hard drive issues.

http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

try these programs although I cannot vouch for them.
they may help.

HDTune 2.55 HD Tune is a hard disk health, benchmarking, error scanner and information tool.
HDAT2 4.53the main function is testing and repair (regenerates) bad sectors for detected devices. A freeware alternative of HDD Regenerator.
