I recently sent my drive back to Samsung for replacement after I discovered something rattling around inside (never a good thing for a HDD).
They use a company called 'Rexo' for their warranty claims, and I had some problems with their registration form not letting me log in, but a quick phone call sorted that out pretty quickly.
Re the OPs question, if your serial numbers have '0', try both letters and numbers, as that's what happened to me. Their warranty seems pretty relaxed, they don't require you to run software to validate an error, they just seem to take your word for it
I sent my 500gb drive back to them on Monday, on Wednesday a nice man from UPS delivered its replacement, excellent service.

Heres the link for the registration page for the company dealing with Samsungs HDD warranty claims (it's on the OCUK support page, btw). http://www.rexo.co.uk//register.php
