Samsung i7500 (Android)

Any ideas when O2 are losing exclusivity? I can only justify this kind of money for unlimited texts (and for less money tbh).

I thought it was going to be early this month, but seen nothing of it...
 
The galaxy doesnt seem to be all that heavily promoted. So even if they loose exclusivity who knows if anyone else will pick it up.

If you really want it, get the best phone/tariff deal you can on a popular phone. Ebay the phone and order the samsung from germany.

In fact if you did that with something like a Hero you'd probably make 50 quid on top!
 
They were supposedly exclusive to O2 for 4 weeks, when I mentioned this to a guy in my local O2 store, he said if prices were likely to drop it would be in October, which is why I extended my current contract until the end of the month, and then will buy it regardless!
 
I have just managed to get one of these of the bay for £243:D. Just hope it turns up now.

I will have a read through the thread, are there any major updates that i will need to download?
 
You just need to download the latest NPS software. That will update you to II5 (the latest version). I assume you bought it from germany?

If its a UK phone you can't update 'officially' as they havnt posted updates for that region. The alternative is to either use Odin, or when you install NPS select english language but then germany as a region. Either way - if your on O2 uk - you will loose your O2 custom settings and posibly have a waranty issue untill they release a O2 update.

If you bought it from Italy then I think they only update to H6 at the moment. But you can unofficially update to I5 without worrying, because there is a italian ROM you can downgrade to if you ever need to use the waranty.

It a uk o2 model, It sound like my options are limited at the moment.

Right i need some help

I have come across a major problem.


My keyboard has vanished after in installed the update, so i can not search, text etc. Has anyone else got this problem, or had it and resolved it?
 
I ended up having to do a factory reset.

I would recommend to anyone, do not do the update and wait for a better more stable one.
 
Its always a good idea to factory reset after an update. Yeah I know they really should release better 'updates' but what can we do!

If you're keyboard has vanished, you can go into locale settings, select the keyboard again, change language and select the corect language again, and it will be back.

Any news on when there will be an official firmware update for O2 phones? I've downloaded NPS and selected UK when installing it. Currently, it doesn't even recognise the phone in the update dialogue.

Not really good enough for a phone that's been out in the UK for a while now. I get the impression neither Samsung or O2 are making much of a commitment to this device :(
 
What firmware are you on? Did you turn on usb debugging on the phone? Doesn GT-i7500 show up in NPS, or just the two storage devices?

I just (20mins ago) ordered mine, managed to get it on an 18month contract, £35, 600mins, 1k texts, unlimited net, free phone.
So sounds like they are willing to be flexible now, i just had to go to the upgrades line who then tried and couldnt do the deal i wanted so they patched me through to retentions, who are the people i always end up ordering from anyways!
 
ok so first i have issues with the samsung program for syncing up my phone (says its not supported, when ive just got the latest version from the website)
And my mass storage devices are showing as removable disks with no media inserted (im trying to access the built in memory card)

When i installed the samsung program (windows 7) it gave me various errors, but manually updating drivers and telling it to scan the pc studio directory for drivers fixed that.

Any ideas anyone?
(on a side note are there any other programs that i can use to sync rather than the samsung one? like a universal android sync program the way you have the windows mobile sync center)

Otherwise its a great phone, currently playing a tower defense game from the droid market ;-)

Ok, there are a lot of posts here and there is no way i am going to read all 339 of them. This may well of already been asked and answered but here i go anyway........................

Is this phone worth getting or is it a pile of crap ?
