Samsung LCD resolution issue

Hi there,

I've got this Samsung Syncmaster T220 (22") which has and optimum and maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050 (@ 60Hz).

However in Windows whenever I change the resolution to anything above 1280 x 1024 it seems like the resolution doesn't actually change and when I hover my mouse up and down the screen, the screen moves as well (very weird!).

I've installed the drivers for both my graphic card and monitor and I'm using Windows XP (32-bit) if it helps. Connecting the LCD via digital cable.

I take it you dont have a stone age graphics card that cant output high resolutions?

If not then It sounds like eithr your card or the monitor is faulty. Can you check the monitor on another computer?

I've had the same once on a computer.

Solved it by changing resolution through ATi's controlpanel and not the usual "windows-way", I'm sure there's an option for it somewhere in nVidia's . Not sure why it happens or how to get rid of it though. It was an older PC running XP. It seemed like it didn't detect the new max resolution properly, and wouldn't go higher than the old 1280x1024 without getting the "viritual desktop"-thing. I fixed it by disabling DDC and set it manually to 1600x1200 in the gfx-driver's control panel.

Im fairly sure its a software issue, got nothing to do with your hardware.

Nope, this didn't work for me either. There may be a problem with the monitor's EDID I suspect, however:

As you can see the natural resolution is 1280x1024 and not 1680x1050. Is there any way I can change the EDID on the monitor (bit risky too:( )

You've not got it set to 4:3 in the monitor menu have you? On my t260 i can have 4:3, 16:10 and just scan, which seems to change what it does all the time. Sometimes it got black bars, other times its stretched vertically with the edges cropped. Very weird :p
