I'm planning to buy a new Evo SSD to replace my current Plextor model.

1.
Can anyone explain how the encryption in Samsung Magician Software works?
At the moment I'm encrypting my drive with TrueCrypt (but will be using VeraCrypt soon).
And I also using True Image, to create images of the drive at various stages i.e. clean installation of Windows, final working config etc.
But, I can't restore an image when the drive has been encrypted. It just messes up (I can live with that "feature").

So, I'd like to know if used the Magican software to encrypt the drive, does it require a password to allow windows to start (like TrueCrypt), or does it just prevent the drive being used in another computer (and there's no password input)?
Does True Image successfully be able to create and restore encrypted images without messing up?

I usually do clean installs when buy new HDD's, but cloning it sounds less hassle.
How effective is cloning, compared to doing a clean install? If a clean install is 10/10, would cloning still be a 10 or lower?

I've read on this forum that Macrium Reflect is they way to go for cloning. The Guide is on the last page at the time of writing, so someone needs to bump it to prevent extinction ;)
But, I'd prefer to scrap my current config and roll back to an earlier image created by True Image.
Would that be as effective as using Macrium?

Thank you for any advice :)

not sure on the encryption I don't use it,but a clone is a clone so whether its encrypted or not it will be exact same copy so should work

if your using true image I would decrypt the ssd/hdd first then make a backup image restore it and encrypt it again

You can always set a bios password on you drive that will prevent the drive being used on another computer and stop anyone from booting your computer without it.

This is the most basic level of encryption security.
