Hi all,

My girlfriend is getting a netbook for Christmas from her parents and they have come to me to ask for suggestions. I have found that most places highly rate samsung, and they do have the long battery life we are looking for. However do these models vary enough to warrant the higher price of the n140?

Thanks

Daven

Had a NC10, battery life more than adequate. For an extra £50, not sure. The Eee PC 1015HA has long battery life as well (10 hours). If you REALLY want the extra mileage, I suppose it's worth it. I would factor in a two gig upgrade as well. You can get a N130 here with a £20 cashback (basically, enough to get the memory upgrade). I would think they would be happy enough with 6-7 hours batteries :)

The only problem with the Sammy I had was the sound from the speaker. Dreadful! :D

Note that some netbooks come with windows 7. Worth a look.

thanks, I was thinking about the Eee however it is a bit more pricey! I had thought that a NC10 with a 2 gig upgrade would be better than a stock N140 for the same price.

Will look out for windows 7, however I have read that it hits battery life by about an hour or so, although this may be due to drivers.

Thanks

if you are thinking of playing HD on it at some point give some consideration to the ones with ion graphics, you may regret it if you dont

If you fancy becoming a netbook modder, the NC10 is the one to go for. :P

Apparantly they can now be overclocked, you can upgrade them to wireless N, change the speakers, fit bigger hard drives, upgrade the battery, upgrade to windows 7 now the drivers are ready, upgrade the ram to 2gb.

Or, you can get one of those Toshibas like my mate just did that comes with pretty much everything, BUT, I don't like the looks of it compared to my NC10, and i don't like the keyboard. The NC10's keyboard is nearly perfect, the only thing that annoys me is I keep hitting enter when i mean to go for backspace, which is a pain in the arse when you're using MSN. ;)

i won't comment on the N140, because I've never seen one or read about them really.

Perhaps the best Netbook at present is the Toshiba NB200-10Z - 10.1in
has the slightly faster chip
10" is the perfect size an inch more too large - inch less too little - though the manufacturers tend to keep adding the inches.
Windows 7 is a great advantage. In any case always upgrade the ram to 2GB - there must be a lot of surplus 1gb memory around.

Thanks, that looks pretty decent. Have added it to the list :)

Thanks Muel however there will be no modding taking place - simply a stock netbook, with perhaps a 2gb upgrade.
