Samsung NC10 - SSD Advice

So I was thinking of fitting my NC10 with a SSD. I already have a Vertex 2E in my desktop and loving the speed but was thinking of a small SSD for the Netbook.

Had a quick look in the BIOS and don't see any reference to the drive controller mode (AHCI or IDE). What is going on here? I doubt AHCI is an option on this Netbook but have any of you guys fitted out your NC10 with a SSD and if so what is the best one? I know the M4 is fab but is it the best SSD for my NC10?

Many thanks :)

Is it SATA1 or 2? A lot of the early Netbooks with Atom were only SATA1. An SSD is an improvement but it's fairly marginal compared to what you will have seen on a decent desktop.

If you have a spare SSD lying about then go for it, I wouldn't go out and buy one (again) though ;)

As far as I know it's SATA II and my work is giving me £300 worth of 'I love to shop' vouchers next week so decided to stick a SSD in the Netbook :D Im hoping someone can enlighten me here before I buy.

There must be someone with this Netbook who has installed a SSD in it or who is able to advise me? :)

Not sure what bit you're reading, seriously I might have missed something...

I can only see the bit where it lists the drives that the NC10 shipped with originally, but that just states the drives not the interface on the chipset itself.

Ok so it's only SATA 1?? There's still going to be a good increase in speed and overall power consumption from installing a SSD however. It's a question of which one given it will only be running under IDE mode by the looks of it :) What about one of the Intel's perhaps? Not bothered which one as long as it works :D

Like I said, you'll see an improvement, but won't be brilliant. TBH if you're set on it, I'd go for the cheapest one you can find that you're happy with size/reliability wise.

Ah, I just assumed the chipset would only support the ones listed, my bad

I put an Intel X25-M (and 2GB RAM) into my Advent Milano netbook, the speed increase is very good and it was certainly a worthwhile upgrade. I'm running it on windows XP which doesn't support TRIM natively, to keep the drive performing well I'm using the intel SSD toolbox program.

I believe the drive is running in IDE mode, but in comparison to the sata 2, 5400rpm western digital drive that came stock, it now goes like the wind. I was looking at buying one of these , but I had a spare 80GB X25-M so I used that instead.

I would highly recommend an intel drive, I have two of them, one was bought second hand of the members market and I have never had any issues with these drives at all.

Thanks for your input mate ;)
