I was all set to putchase the samsung P2270 monitor when doubts started to settle in over the stand.
On the samsung website it shows the monitor in a leaning back pose and in the spec it does not state the stand is adustable.
I require my monitor to be pure vertical, leaning back is no good to me so i phoned samsung and after 10 minutes of em's and um's the guy said you cannot adjust it :(
Then i see this review online - http://wccftech.com/2009/07/19/samsung-syncmaster-p2270-review/
and it clearly shows you can adjust it to a vertical position.

Anyone out there have this monitor and confirm one way or another?

You can adjust the 'tilt' of the stand around 30 degrees backwards and slightly forwards beyond "pure vertical". It offers the same adjustability options as most Samsung monitors.

Cheers PCM2, mighty relieved to hear that.

I couldn't believe anyone could sell a monitor that is permanently fixed.

Do you own a P2270?

I don't own a P2270 but I've used this and other members of the Ecofit range (namely the Samsung XL2370) so I know a little bit about them. I think one of the reasons people mistakenly think that Samsung monitors such as the P2270 are completely fixed on the stand is that they are a little firm at first. You need to put one hand on the base and the other at the top of the monitor and you should be able to loosen it up from there.

Actually the XL2370 is classed as having a tilting stand on the samsung website so are you sure the p2270 is the same?
Further to confuse my aching head i have just noticed there are two models, the P2270 and the 2 P2270H.......the differences are minimal, the H model uses more power has better brightness and is not quite so tall and one is rose red the other charcoal???????

Come to think of it I am not sure of the exact model I had used. Samsung are very inconsistent with their specifications though and it's a bit annoying. I would recommend the B2230H over the P2230 anyway. It's their new one and the image quality is certainly superior (I speak from first-hand experience). If you check out our website (link at the bottom) we featured the B2230H in the 'monitor of the month' section for this month.

Thanks for that and i read the review of the B2230H and it looks pretty good.

Are you saying the B2230 is a newer model and better? The P2270 costs about £40 more is that all down to the styling?

My first choice has always been the XL2370 but the price scared me off

Yeah it is just the styling really. The B2230H is a member of the new 'plum' series which, alongside the BX50 series are Samsung's newest monitor ranges. We also have a thorough review of the XL2370 on the website. It is an expensive monitor and it's a diffiuclt choice considering the B2230H is around half the price - that's understandably confusing. :)

I'm so lost now I'm ready to forget about it all :(

I currently own a samsung 2032bw which is great but buying the B2230H just looks like a slightly bigger version of what i have, at least with the 2270 it looks a bit different.

Decisions decisions.

I have ruled out the XL2370 though at £258 i just can't justify it

I have that exact monitor for one of my old computers! The B2230H is in a different league in terms of image quality and in 'real life' it actually doesn't look as similar to the B2032bw as it does on some of the pictures. The shape may be similar but the perspex lip (once lit up especially), control layout and rear of the monitor are all completely different. Even the stand is different if you want to be particular - you just have to remember that the ubiquitous glossy black plastics can make most monitors look like any other. The image quality, build quality and value of the B2230H is really exceptional though.

I wouldn't look too much into the response time really - how this is measured and what this means in reality is questionable. The Samsung B2230H I used was every bit as good as most 2ms panels I've used if not better. It was more reponsive than your current monitor, which is rated at 2ms grey to grey. I think Samsung have really good response time compensation algorithms and they have improved since the days of the 2032BW. The B2230H is great for entertainment purposes and this is what it is intended for.

You've obviously spent some time with the B2230H and appreciate your thoughts.
Here's where i am so far as far as looks go the P2270 is way ahead, but you assure me the image quality is better on the newer and cheaper B2230 which you would think i would be delighted about. At the back of my mind a wee voice is saying how can an entry level monitor be better than a higher spec model?

Can u give me a bit more detail on B2230 for example does it have the touch sensitive buttons, does the power light fade out after a few seconds...and most important of all....is it blue :)

Don't be fooled into thinking the P2250 is a higher spec model. At the time it was launched it was a competitively priced 22 incher but it was never more than a budget panel. The price hasn't changed much since its launch. The B2230H, however, has had to compete with some increasingly cheap panels from the likes of LG, ViewSonic, Acer and ASUS. I haven't actually spent as much time as I would have liked with the B2230H. Samsung haven't managed to give me any member of the 'plum' series to review properly but one of my work collegues owns one that I have fiddled about with.

To answer your questions quickly - yes it has touch sensitive buttons and the power LED is a blue oval that stays on (I believe you can change the brightness using the OSD too).

Cheers bud i appreciate the time you've taken to answer my inane questions :)

I think i'll follow your suggestion and take a plunge on the 2230, a certain online store have it at a good price and heck if i don't like it i can send it back easily enough.

One last question if i may, you obviously see a fair amount of monitors, well more than me anyway. is there any other 22" i should be considering?

Hi. Just to let you know the mods around here are quite strict about mentioning competitors by name. Don't worry - if you remove the 'A' word it should be fine. ;)

A few I would consider include:

- Acer P225HQ (good value)
- BenQ G2222HDL (as above but IMO not the best image quality even for the price)
- ViewSonic VX2250WM (they love it over in America but I would reserve my own judgement until I have used it)
- LG W2261VP (similar performance to B2230H from what I understand but haven't used myself)
- Samung BX2250 (reviewed the 23 inch version on my website - offered a bit of extra brightness and has a beautiful stand and lovely overall look but I'm not sure it's worth £70+ more than the B2230H).

In all I think the B2230H represents the best overall build quality and image quality for the price so I think you should go with that one. :)

Thanks again, always liked the samsung monitors so i'll stick with them i think. I looked at the BX and it was actually the stand that put me off.

Going for the B2230H :)

Haha well the stand is certainly.. Different. I'm not sure if it was the look I liked so much as the fact it felt nice and solid - cold chrome. Do let me know how you find the B2230H. I hope you like it but like you said it should be easy enough to return or what have you if you don't.

oh finally...yeah another question, any idea what certain online stores or even samsung themselves are like with dead pixels?

If i have a great big black one in the middle of the screen is that returnable?

Certain store is usually good if you act quickly - keep all packaging as intact as possible.
