Samsung Pro not reaching it's potential.

Hi,

Just putting together the new PC, installed Samsung Magician and it shows my read/write speeds to be about 100MB down from stated, well 406mb read, 396mb write.

Any tips or pointers for getting the 840 Pro set up optimally?

First off before installing your OS did you change the sata port for the ssd to ahci?

The motherboard is a Asus Gene VI, which has no option for AHCI in bios as it is set to AHCI by default so I believe?

Samsung Magician states it as on.

any asmedia ports on that board? make sure your on the intel sata3 speed ports

install the latest intel rapid storage drivers aswell,they will improve speeds slightly over the Microsoft drivers

Have you got the latest firmware installed ? and set the drive to maximum speed in Samsung magician.

Also make sure you turn on the overprovising option.

Wait a minute, I am installing the drives in the 1st two slots, which would be fine if the motherboard was not inverted! Duh! Slaps forehead! :eek:

that's better,you can also enable 10% overprovisioning,you will lose 20 odd gb of space but it will improve random write iops figures

upto you really,it will be fast whatever you decide

Yes, clearly the 1st attempt with these Intel drivers failed due to me being a noob with upside down ports lol.
